The Plat of Indianapolis
This year marks the 200th birthday of the city of Indianapolis, and to celebrate, I digitally cleaned up the image of city's original plat from 1821. I started with this original image of the plat posted on Reddit by the Indiana State Archives and then manually erased stains and blemishes using photo editing software. Below is the result (reduced size) and you can view the full sized version here.

While cleaning up the map, it finally occurred to me that all of the streets north of Market are named after northern states, and all those south of Market are southern states—something I hadn't realized before. Anyway, the plat of Indianapolis has an iconic design, and I would love to see graphic designers in the city use this image for art or goods. The image is public domain, and here are some examples of what it looks like with a splash of color (reduced size):

Update: Based on requests for prints, I decided to create this online store. Of course, others are still welcome to sell prints or other items with the design!
